Regular Exercise When You’re Over 50 is beneficial for you

When you are 50 years old, you may think that you can no longer start to be physically active. However, it is not true. It is never to late to begin doing something, you must not have to stick to what you have been doing for the last 20 years of your life. To keep fit is very essential for you when you turn to 50 or over as you can protect yourself fromall dreaded diseases. It is a truth that when we get older, we can be more vulnerable. It is natural. But the good news for you is that there are things to do about it. You can benefit from regular work outs whether you belong to the 20s bracket or the 50s bracket.

Regular exercise dramatically decreases fat storage and it helps prevent bone loss and osteoporosis. A recent study shows that people who work out on a regular basis increased their bone mineral by 2.29%. If you stay active, you decrease your bad cholesterol and blood sugar level. Working out doesn’t have a negative effect on your body, it does nothing but to improve your muscular strength, flexibility, balance and endurance.

When we workout, our body is trying to overcome the stress from your exercise and as we get used to it, our body gets better by adapting to the stress that it is not used to. A work out can only be effective when we put some stress in it, that’s when we lose weight. Once you achieved the physical fitness level that you want, then you can stay with the current intensity or difficulty of the workout. It doesn’t mean that you have to stop though, we have to keep on working out to maintain a healthy body.

Aside from physical benefits, regular exercise can improve the brain functioning of the elderly, and may even protect against dementia. Recent studies prove that exercise heightens activity in the brain’s frontal lobes and it increases the levels of BDNF or brain-derived neurotrophic factor. This substance is said to improve mood and help brain cells to survive in a long period of time. Stay active, look for something that you enjoy doing whether it’s walking, water aerobics, hiking or horse back riding. Exercise contributes to a better health and a better life.
